Big Ideas from the Message
- Disneyland’s Matterhorn started as a pile of leftover excavation dirt. Walt Disney saw a mountain in it years before anyone else could.
- Following Jesus requires a kind of “holy imagination” … learning to see reality the way Jesus sees it.
- None of us come to Jesus with a blank picture of reality. Family, culture, and experience have already been shaping how we see the world.
- Paul borrows the image of Moses’ veiled face and relocates it to the human heart: something can dull our ability to see what’s right in front of us.
- When someone turns to the Lord, Paul says, the veil is removed, and seeing clearly leads to being transformed.
- We always act on what we imagine to be true. A worldview shaped by scarcity produces clutching; a worldview shaped by competition produces comparison.
- Conforming to the world’s pattern happens by default. Being transformed requires the renewing of the mind (Romans 12:2).
- Jesus consistently sees what others miss: an enemy who can be loved, someone written off who’s worth restoring, a cross that leads to resurrection.
- A simple, repeatable prayer can start reshaping how we see: “Jesus, help me see what you see.”
- Across all four weeks of the series, the through-line is the same: Jesus doesn’t just want your beliefs, he wants to reshape how you see people, decisions, habits, and reality itself.
Discussion Questions
- Where have you seen someone else imagine a different reality before it was obvious to everyone else?
- Read Exodus 34:29–35 and 2 Corinthians 3:14–16. Paul moves the image of the veil from Moses’ face to the hearts of the people. What do you think it means for a person’s mind to become “dull” or veiled without them realizing it?
- Pick one belief about success, security, or people that feels like “just how the world works.” Where do you think you actually learned to see it that way?
- Read Romans 12:2. Paul contrasts conforming to the world’s pattern with being transformed by a renewed mind. Why do you think conformity requires so little effort, while transformation requires intention?
- Forrest listed several ways Jesus sees differently: an enemy as someone to love, failure as a place for restoration, power as service, a cross as the doorway to resurrection. Which of those is hardest for you to actually believe, not just agree with?
- What’s one specific situation in your life right now where you could pray “Jesus, help me see what you see” this week?
